Expedition to Arenal Volcano – Colada 1968.

We begin the tour by heading to the El Silencio Private Reserve, to get as close to the base of the Arenal volcano as possible by vehicle. Next, we will walk approximately 1 kilometre along a volcanic stone path with a moderate degree of difficulty, until we reach the viewpoint, the closest point to the volcano permitted to access. At the viewpoint, our guide will provide relevant information on the formation of the Arenal Volcano, its periods of activity, as well as unpublished details of its first eruption in 1968. You can also enjoy the excellent views of the Green Lagoon and Lake Arenal. On the guide’s indication, we will begin our descent along the same trail.

For a change of scenery

We will then enter the regenerating forest and onto the primary rainforest located along the outskirts of the Arenal Volcano. With a little luck, this 1.5 km (1 mi) trail will provide us with the opportunity to see a wide variety of plants and animals that inhabit the rainforest, like toucans, turkeys, orioles, peccaries,snakes, and monkeys. At the end of the tour our driver will be waiting for us with a delicious snack of tropical fruit before returning to your La Fortuna Hotel.

Modality – Morning Schedule

Hour: 07:30 hrs – 11:30 hrs.

This is our recommended schedule due to the activeness of the wildlife during early hours. After breakfast at the hotel, the guest will join other guests and a local naturalist guide for about three hours looking for the exuberant flora and fauna remarkable from this rainforest area and knowledge expected to last forever in the guests memory.

Modality – Afternoon Schedule

Hour: 14:30- 18:00 hrs.

Afternoon; During the afternoon, once the midday sun begins to fade, the second schedule of the walk to the Arenal Volcano takes place, as well the guest will join other guests and a local naturalist guide for about three hours looking for the exuberant flora and fauna remarkable from this rainforest area and knowledge expected to last forever in the guests memory.

During both of these schedules the guest is able to appreciate multiple species of wildlife, starting with some worldwide famous birds such as the Potoo, Three-Wattled Bellbird or the Bare Necked Umbrellabird in addition to the capuchin monkeys, bats, the great Curassow, the Coati, green basilisks.
